The latest installment of Capcom’s Devil May Cry series will have players in an unusual role. The series’ main protagonist, Dante, will not comprise the starring role in this, the fourth game in the series. Instead, Nero, who happens to bear a striking resemblance to Dante, will take the reins. Even further, it is very clear that Nero has a stunningly powerful hatred for Dante.
As with most games that are lucky enough to spawn two sequels (and a prequel in this case) not much as changed so much as has been expanded. The graphical prowess for the PlayStation 3 has been show in a teaser trailer, which involves Dante showing off juggling combinations, in which he can managed to suspend the television/camera in the air with numerous sword slashes in tandem with gunfire.
The new main character has been described as having psychokinetic powers (Devil Bringer) which are in the midst of developing fully in the game. Opposed to Dante’s dual pistols, Nero will wield a single firearm and a revolver at that, named Blue Rose. The name may or may not have something to due with Nero’s blue and red attire, which may also contribute to the name of his sword, which has been identified as Red Queen. Nero’s right arm is the source of his Devil Bringer powers.
The premise is simple for the most part: Nero belongs to a particular Order of Knights which has had its leader axed by Dante; the apparent reason Nero doesn’t have any sort of love for Capcom’s Antihero.
After some complaining that Devil May Cry 3 was tad bit on the difficult side, the original outlook for Devil May Cry 4 was to make the game somewhat easier. However, after fans of the series showed their dislike of this notion, the director of the game has since said that the game will be hard. Also expect this to be the longest of the entire Devil May Cry series as it will feature cut-scenes longer than all of the previous installments combined, which is saying something. The game will also feature a myriad of new weapons, locations, enemies, music and as already displayed in teaser trailers, new maneuvers.
Important to note is that Nero will NOT be the only playable character, which is oddly reminiscent of what Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty did with its two main characters. Though players shouldn’t expect the game to be sliced in half and divided up between two characters as other playable characters have yet to be announced, though speculation is that Dante will be another playable character.
